What to wear?

Choosing what to wear can be super fun but can also be stressful! I am here to help! I love picking out clothing to go along with location, time of year, or whatever vibe I am trying to create. Maybe you don't know where to start?  Here are a few tips on planning what to wear. 

                           

                                                     Keep it simple & Plan Ahead

Follow a color palette, pick 2-4 colors to work with and go from there. Make sure the pieces compliment each other. Don't be afraid to mix it up with patterns and solids.   I recommend starting your family outfit planning by picking one item of clothing with a few colors (like mom or daughter’s dress) and pull colors from that for everyone else to wear.

Shoes, Glasses and Accessories

It's easy to plan the clothes and forget about the shoes.  The shoes will also be in the pictures so make sure they go along with your outfits. Do you have glasses? Non-reflective lenses, of course, are a big help. Sometimes people will use the frames without any lenses to avoid reflection but keep their personal style. It just depends on the lighting and time of day but they can be completely fine or cause reflection. Accessories can add a little spunk and fun to your photo session, just make sure they don't take away from everyone's smiles. Hats, headbands, bows, suspenders, or bow ties are fun examples. Also, don't forget apple watch or hair ties around your hand if you don't want those in the pictures. 

Make Up, Hair & Nails

Some women choose to have their hair cut or styled the day of their shoot. Message me for recommendations.  Definitely take the time to take care of yourself because if momma is feeling confident the shoot will surely go well. A little color on the lips goes a long way even if you don't normally wear lipstick. Make up looks different in photos as opposed to want you see in person so don't be afraid to use it. Hands and feet sometimes will make their way into close up shots, just something to keep in mind. 

Plan by Season and location! 

You want everyone comfortable and happy so picking clothes that fit with the weather is key.  Nice and warm in the winter and cool for the summer. In the summer if we are by the water make sure and bring a towel and possibly change of clothes(depending on how much fun you want to have). During summer and spring people often choose lighter and more neutral clothing and during fall and winter people tend to love more bold and rich colors. 

Newborn Session

Newborns and babies look best in their birthday suits, swaddled or wrapped.  If you want them to be photographed with clothes, solid colors usually work best. Everyone else should wear clothes that don't wrinkle easily.  You will want to be comfortable so avoid any clothes you need to keep adjusting.  After all, you just completed one of life's most difficult tasks. Go you!! Color palettes with cream/white, neutrals and pastels are best. Do not worry about shoes because you won't need them. 

Branding/Headshot Session

You are ready to take your business to the next level or maybe you just need a simple headshot. You want to look polished but also unique to your brand. 

Think of how you are going to join your brand's color palette into your branding photos.  You want those two things to align. Don't be afraid to add pops of your brand colors throughout your clothing items combined with neutral tones.  

Accessorizing with hats, scarves, jewelry, shoes are always a fun way to jazz up your style.  We also like you to bring along things such as your laptop, books, art materials, products, journal, etc.  Anything that will represent your brand. I recommend getting makeup, hair, and nails done. If you don't, give yourself a little extra pamper time.
