In the last 6 months I have had major mommy
growth. If you know me, you know I am a planner!! I like to plan trips,
parties, get togethers, and life in general. So as a planner, I of
course, purchased baby guide- books within a week of getting pregnant. I
guess it brought out the planner in Bryan because he purchased "The
Expecting Father". We read books and googled for hours planning the
arrival of our little man. We were excited to say the least. Along
the way we have learned that having a baby is just like anything else...the
book only gets you so far. Usually the guide-book’s setting is "in a
perfect world". As you all know we aren't living in a perfect world.
Our world is full of curve balls. For us that was dad leaving a month after
baby was born then returning for a month to leave again for 7 months. I
have had to rise to the duty of single motherhood. I also made the
decision to pack up my house and make the trek to Texas to live with my parents
for their love and support.
With all that said I have come to the
conclusion that these books, although great to read in preparation for a baby,
put too much pressure on first time mommies. Or maybe it was just me
putting pressure on myself to be the best???? Whatever the case, I have learned
that I can only do my best and I am not by any means perfect. I am learning
here and trying to do what I think is best for my baby with the help of Bryan from
far away.
Most important lesson I have learned:
Timing!! Timing!! Timing!! It will all happen when it supposed to happen. It can't be forced, but as a mom I do my best to lead Corbyn in the direction I think is right.
I don’t
want to even imagine doing all this on my own without family and Bryan. As
for baby-guide books, I don’t plan to take them so seriously in the future.
