Saying Goodbye

Saying goodbye is the most trying time in life.  It's never easy, no matter how prepared you are!  It's always sorrowful, heartbreaking, and emotional. I sure wish we could skip over this part of life.  But then again if we never had to say goodbye, we would never have all of the hellos! That's what matters most, all of those beautiful hellos before the goodbye.  No matter the memory, big or small they are yours forever.

Last week we said goodbye to my grandmother.  She was such a beautiful soul, one who light up a room when she entered.  She could talk your ear off but her listening skills were just as great!  Always giving, always smiling, and always ready for adventure.   Her last months of life weren't ideal and in fact she suffered a great amount with my grandpa by her side.  She was on the other end of recovery and I just knew she was going to get better after seeing her a few weeks ago.  Then an infection took over and her body just couldn't fight it.  She fought long and she fought feirce.  I do know she is much happier now smiling down on us not suffering anymore.  I'll always wish for one more conversation, one more cheers, and one more "there you have it".  I'll hold onto my last visit with everything I have! The things she said to me and how hard she worked to say them can never be taken away.  My last words with her, "I'll miss you grandma" and then she said "Not as much as much as I'll miss you". As I left she blew me kisses and yelled "be safe, love you".  My visit was not meant to say goodbye but I am sure glad I was able to make that trip and bring Tristyn with me.  Even though she couldn't hold him or sit with him the smile on her face was priceless as she watched him run around the room. So much more left to say about her and how my life was better because she was in it.  I had so much more to tell her and she would have loved to listen.   So many life lessons come to surface as you lose someone you love deeply.   Don't hold anything back, live as hard as you can, be kind, be very kind, give, listen as well as you talk, forgive yourself and others, be the sunshine the world needs, love without end, take chances, take the trip, don't wait, trust in the Lord and his plan, and sure as heck savor the moment!  She will be missed by so many but her infectious laugh and beautiful smile will always remain in our hearts.

Memories and pictures are all I have left and we all know "pictures are worth a thousand words".  Here are a few of my favorites.

She came to visit me in Monterey for a girls trip! A visit full of laughs and lots of wine.  Her eyes light up when I mentioned this trip during my last visit.

My beautiful grandmothers standing by me on the most important day of my life. I sure have been blessed! All beautiful in their own way!

Always ready for fun!

Visiting them in Albuquerque with Corbyn at three months old.

Always lots of love for her.

Home from Bahrain for a visit. His wild ways made her laugh.

Always a fashionista! Always beautiful!

This one is EVERYTHING!!

This is how I will ALWAYS remember her! It was her favorite picture of herself and I was the one who was able to share in this joy!
